Dude, where's my porn?

Excuse my laziness as I had meant to comment on Fahrenheit 451 vs. 1984 business earlier. I liked Bradbury a whole lot more the Orwell but in fact the two cannot be compared. Each has a different approach to media control. Orwell talks about there being a high class that forces people into enternal warfare so that their resourced be exhausted on that rather than facing the govenment (I read this a while ago and I may be off).

Bradbury, which I have read more recently, states the reason for censorship was because each cluster of people thought to have held their own beliefs had oposing beliefs that they thought where offensive removed from literature/media. The amount of censored material increased proportionally with these clusters and the opinions they held till people stopped reading books altogether.

Well you really should read Bradbury's Coda which I think is insane (really worth the read and I can't stress this enough).

A thought I will leave you with: is censorship not the expression of an opinion in its own right? and when we do decide to get rid of it are we not only proliferating it?

(note: post favorite part of each book.)

Props to JaCkie for getting me rolling on this one.
Comments:
Wow, I inspired this post :P hehehe I only wish I had stumbled upon this earlier.. Anyways since no one took the chance to comment on it so I will be the first ;P

I too have read Farenheit 451 in detail back in High School and well I procrastinated the novel 1984 because it was typically boring but I understood the content in short.. So it was nice reading your references to Bradbury's novel and me going all the way back to the 9th grade or 10th grade I guess when I read the novel hehe..

Regarding your quetions:

Yes censorship on its own is the expression of an individual's opinion but by censoring another thing you are also taking away someone else's own opinion. For example, say I say something bad about the government or whatever in an article printed in newspapers, and they censor it or even cut out the juicy parts and put in words I haven't said.. Okay that's their opinion that they don't want this to be shown in public or whatever but it is also my right to say what I want.

And I hope we get rid of the censorship in all because a person knows on his own what he should censor out of his own life and not have a world ruled by Big Brother censoring stuff for him.
